[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Della Crews: I’m Della Crews. Tonight in Spotlight New Jersey: The World Mission Society Church of God based in Ridgewood Bergen County. This nonprofit is conducting a special emergency response training on December 1st for 1200 members and holding a special award ceremony. Saira Ahmed is the Public Relations contact for the church and thank you Saira for joining us by phone.

Saira: Thank you for having me, Della.

Della Crews: How did the World Mission Society Church of God get involved in this special training and how many people are taking part on December 1st?

Saira: Well, first of all I really want to give thanks to our Heavenly Father Christ Ahnsahnghong and our Heavenly Mother New Jerusalem because without their power and inspiration and their love it would have been impossible to do this. About a year ago, when Sandy hit, about 300-400 members of ours gathered together to start doing disaster relief in the area. And one of the areas we went to was the shelter in Mahwah. It was the Bergen Police Shelter. At that time we met with a representative, Detective Gidget Petry, from the Office of Emergency Management and she showed so much interest in the members’ efforts trying to help the people who had lost their homes and possessions. And so she never forgot that experience.

Recently, we touched base with her about getting together the members who want to be ready in the event of a future disaster. And so we’re now working with the Bergen County Police Office of Emergency Management and they are arranging for this unprecedented training for 1200 of us.

Della Crews: That’s going to be invaluable. What is the Church of God’s purpose for this particular training?

Saira: The purpose of the Church of God, our ultimate mission is to share the love of Christ with all mankind. We live in very dark times you know, many people are alienated from each other and sometimes it’s very difficult for us to overcome the tragedies in our life. But through this kind of training, receiving first response disaster training, we believe that the members will be ready and prepared to, not only help people clean up their neighborhoods, gut their homes, cut trees down when things happen, but really we just want to share love with everyone that we meet and in everything we do and that is the love of our Heavenly Mother.

Della Crews: That is beautiful. Saira Ahmed with the World Mission Society Church of God in Ridgewood.  Thank you so much for joining us tonight and again that training is on December 1st.
