Church of God Volunteers Paint Concert Grove

Bright Paint, Bright Smiles

Brooklyn’s Concert Grove received a new look and revival, thanks to the volunteers of New York Cares and members of the World Mission Society Church of God on Sunday, April 27, 2014.

The Concert Grove is a historical location within Prospect Park that once was the center for musical performances and Brooklyn culture. Planned renovations aim to rejuvenate this location to welcome the return of lively music and music enthusiasts.

Nanthini Elamgovan of the Prospect Park Alliance (PPA) planned to have the 40 volunteers paint about 10% of the Grove’s benches. However, the volunteers’ smiles and cheerful spirits worked to complete more than 90% of the benches. The energy was so contagious that Grove visitors picked up paintbrushes and joined the volunteer event on the spot.

At the end of the day, 80 weather-worn benches transformed into 80 bight and inviting benches. Nanthini expressed her thanks on behalf of the PPA and invited the Church of God continue helping the community by beautifying Prospect Park.

Glorifying Mother, one bench at a time. What a blessed day.
