In the book of Psalms in the Bible, it is prophesied that in the age of the Holy Spirit, it is the youth who will carry out the gospel work. Also, in the book of Micah, the prophesy of the last days states that many nations will come to the Heavenly Jerusalem who only dwells in Zion, the World Mission Society Church of God, which has been established throughout the world. And on November 20, 2011, this is exactly what the members of the Church of God in New York experienced. Over one thousand youth members representing all cultures and walks of life gathered at the New Jersey Army National Guard Armory in West Orange, NJ for the “1,000 Evangelists Rally.” Members from approximately 30 branches of the Church of God from as far south as the Dominican Republic and as far north as New Hampshire traveled to New Jersey for a full day’s worth of fun activities in what felt like an enormous family reunion.
The day started at 10am with an introduction of all the different branch churches along the East Coast of the United States and the Caribbean. Each region wearing a different color shirt to distinguish themselves among the rest of the crowd. The marching band and baton twirlers followed and entertained the audience as they played New Songs, such as “Let’s Go to the Wold,” among others.
Later, the crowd all gathered on the soccer field for a special dedication service to spreading the love and sacrifice of Heavenly Father Christ Ahnsahnghong and Heavenly Mother New Jerusalem throughout the world as the new year would soon begin. During the service, members shared letters written to Heavenly Mother pledging ourselves to spreading the message of salvation throughout the world.
After the service, the brothers and sisters participated in a soccer tournament. Six teams of brothers played against each other on one side of the field. And six teams of sisters played each other on the other half of the field. Each team represented a different branch church. Cheers could be heard from the bleachers encouraging the brothers and sisters on the field whenever a goal was made or a play was missed.
Before going into the final games, brothers and sisters from the various Churches performed various musical pieces and dance routines, including a well-know song among Church of God members, “Jerusalem Love,” by Second New York Zion.
For the final games, the sisters from the Washington, D.C. and the New York churches ended in a tie. Overtime to break the time became double and triple overtime as both teams continued scoring points. In the end, both groups were very happy to share in the same place.
After a day filled with happiness and enjoyment and most importantly brotherly love, the members headed back to their respective Zions with the hopes of being reunited again soon.
